about methods

there are so many methods of all different types available to help you shift. there is no "best" method for shifting. methods will work differently for everyone; what works best for someone might not be the right method for you.
therefore, it's important to be open to different options and experiment more to find the most effective methods for you. in fact, the best thing to help you shift would be to make your own method.


are methods required?

no. you can shift with pure intention and belief. (this is what i personally prefer).
however, for those who are new to shifting, methods can be a good starting point from which you can experiment with shifting. once you grasp the basics and understand the process, you can go on to shift with your own methods or even without following specific procedures!

raven method

best attempted at night or when you are feeling tired!

you may fall into sleep paralysis using this method! if that is something you're not comfortable with, i encourage you to try out other methods instead.

the method
1. (optional) put on headphones and play a shifting subliminal.
2. lay down on your bed or somewhere comfortable in starfish position.
3. set an intention and affirm that you are going to shift tonight. close your eyes and take 3 deep breaths, calming yourself and fully relaxing.
4. keeping your eyes closed and your body still, slowly count to 100 starting from 0. you may visualize your dr or repeat affirmations in your mind in between counts.
5. fall asleep after you reach 100.
6. when you wake up, you will be in your dr!

sunni method

best attempted when you're not overly tired (to avoid falling asleep)!

the method
1. lay down in a comfortable position (does not have to be starfish).
2. set an intention and affirm that you are going to shift tonight. close your eyes and take 3 deep breaths, calming yourself and fully relaxing.
3. imagine and believe that you are in your dr. immerse yourself in it. visualize sights if you can. imagine scents, sounds, (tastes), and sensations from your dr. feel the atmosphere changing. really feel your dr as if you are there already.
4. don't dwell on the sensations you feel as you are shifting; you will know when you have shifted because you will feel you are physically there. don't open your eyes, move, or lose focus until you are sure you are at your dr.
5. once you are certain you are there (perhaps through specific sounds or scents you have scripted), open your eyes and you'll be in your dr!

estelle method

can be attempted anytime, but best when you are not feeling tired!

the method
1. sit/lay down in a comfortable position (does not have to be starfish).
2. set an intention and affirm that you are going to shift. take 3 deep breaths, calming yourself and fully relaxing.
3. put on headphones and play a song: it could be a song that reminds you of your dr or a random song from your playlist.
4. close your eyes and visualize yourself in a room from your dr. then, visualize that you are dancing with someone from your dr to the music. it can be your dr s/o, friend, anyone. try to feel and enjoy the feeling as if you're actually dancing.
5. when the song ends (regardless of whether it loops, a new song comes on, or there is silence), your dance partner will say "it's time to go home now." they will lead you to a door and open it for you; behind the door, you only see white light.
6. walk into the white light; you should feel some vibrations or fuzziness when stepping inside.
7. repeat dr/shifting-related affirmations to yourself. after some time (this can vary between everyone), you should feel like you're falling as if the floor disappeared. your vision should be white and your ears might start ringing, but keep affirming!
8. once you stop falling, your vision will fade to black. open your eyes when that happens, and you will be in your dr!

sleep paralysis method

though sleep paralysis is safe, there can be some scary sounds / hallucinations that accompany it, and not everyone enjoys the experience.
i'm not trying to scare you away, but i just wanted to put this out here: you may hear laughter or buzzing (i experienced this), you may get hallucinations of possible entities as well as experience warped vision (i experienced this as well). you may feel suffocated or feel something is pressing onto your chest.
now, those are all hallucinations. because your mind is ultra receptive in sleep paralysis, your fears and emotions will show in your hallucinations.
however, you can control those hallucinations. you can tell the sounds to stop, and you can push the hallucinations away (i have done this). in addition, doing more reading and getting rid of your fears of sleep paralysis will mean a much smoother experience. the more you fear, the more fearful things you will see.
therefore, my personal opinion is that sleep paralysis is worth a try. it is one of the easiest and quickest shifting methods, so if you're still feeling up for it, the method is detailed below.

how to get out of sleep paralysis
i thought i should explain this before actually going into the method, so you know how to get out of sleep paralysis if you need to beforehand.
it's very simple. the most effective thing for me is to lift my head and tilt my neck forwards, so i'm looking at my toes (whilst laying down). this instantly gives me the ability to move again.
another method is to wiggle your fingers and toes.

the method
1. lay down in a comfortable position on your back.
2. (optional) put on headphones and play a sleep paralysis subliminal.
3. set an intention and affirm that you are going to enter sleep paralysis and shift tonight. visualize yourself surrounded by golden light and affirm that you are safe and protected at all times. close your eyes and take 3 deep breaths, calming yourself and fully relaxing.
4. try to visualize and feel your dr, immersing yourself in the scene. the goal of sleep paralysis is to keep your mind awake while your body falls asleep, so make sure your mind is engaged.
5. don't move your body. it will be tempting to, but moving your body will mean you need to restart the entire process. itchiness and the desire to move is your mind checking if you are asleep; don't give in!
6. once you feel truly paralyzed (you will know when it happens), stay calm. don't worry or panic, you are safe and you can get out of sleep paralysis at any time.
7. affirm or visualize or feel your dr and you will shift instantly in sleep paralysis. (you can also induce a lucid dream by simply falling asleep; details about lucid dreams can be found here).
8. once you are sure you are there (perhaps through a scent or sound you have scripted), open your eyes, and you will discover you can move your body freely again in your dr!

lucid dream method

best attempted when you're tired!

there are many methods to induce lucid dreams; only one (WBTB) is going to described below, however, here is a link to a (public) Amino post detailing other methods! sleep paralysis can also be used to induce lucid dreaming (inducing sleep paralysis is described insteps 1-6 of my sleep paralysis method post here.

the method
1. go to sleep as normal, but wake up in the middle of the night after 4-6 hours of sleep. to do this, you can either set an alarm or set an intention to wake up naturally.
2. fully wake up for 20-30 minutes, stepping out of bed. you can read or meditate (i don't recommend going on your phone though, because it'll make it difficult to go back to sleep).
3. go back to bed, setting an intention that you will have a lucid dream. it's best to sleep on your back.
4. (optional) put on headphones and play a lucid dream-incuding subliminal.
5. try and visualize your dream until you fall asleep; it does not have to be related to your dr if you don't want to. you should begin to experience the lucid dream (you will be aware you are dreaming).
6. once you are in the dream, feel free to let events play out if you'd like. to shift anytime in the dream, simply will a portal of white light that leads to your dr to open anywhere in your dream. jump into the portal and you should feel yourself "falling" into your dr self. once you open your eyes, you will be in your dr!

alice in wonderland method

best attempted when you're not tired!

the method
1. (optional) put on headphones and play a shifting subliminal or nature ambience (birds chirping, rivers, leaves rustling, etc.).
2. lay down in a comfortable position. set an intention and affirm that you are going to shift. close your eyes and take 3 deep breaths, calming yourself and fully relaxing.
3. begin repeating shifting affirmations to yourself.
4. visualize your current self laying down under a tree, doing whatever activity you wish for as long as you'd like.
5. as you look around, you will see something from your dr (an animal, an object...) running away from you. get up and run after it, feeling your consciousness start to slip from your cr. take your time chasing it; patience is key in this method.
6. eventually, you will find a rabbit hole. whatever you were chasing will drop down into it. take a deep breath and jump down after it.
7. as you are free falling, you should be able to feel the sensation. during the fall, think of memories of your old reality and feel yourself letting go of them as your energy levels increase. again, take your time falling.
8. once the falling sensation stops, open your eyes, and you will be in your dr!

train method

this method is great for hogwarts shifters; best attempted when you're not tired!

the method
1. lay down in a comfortable position. set an intention and affirm that you are going to shift. close your eyes and take 3 deep breaths, calming yourself and fully relaxing.
2. imagine you are on a train, with your dr being the final destination. (for hogwarts shifters, you can imagine the hogwarts express!)
3. take your time and truly immerse yourself in the train. do whatever activity you'd like, even have conversations with people from your dr. have faith you will eventually reach your destination and just enjoy the train ride while it lasts.
4. once the train arrives at the destination and stops, open your eyes, and you will be in your dr!

elevator method

best attempted when you're not tired!

the method
1. (optional) put on headphones and play a shfiting subliminal.
2. lay down in a comfortable position. set an intention and affirm that you are going to shift. close your eyes and take 3 deep breaths, calming yourself and fully relaxing.
3. imagine yourself in an elevator going upwards. feel your energy get higher with every passing floor; take your time and truly feel your surroundings.
4. once your energy is high enough, the elevator door will open. exit the elevator and you will be in your room in your dr.
5. walk into the room and explore it if you'd like. eventually, you will see your dr self sleeping. go into their body (imagine you're energy or a spirit if that helps).
6. while in your dr self's body, go to sleep, and you will wake up in your dr!
